    Comparision Domino vs Exchange

    Mats Jansson  2009 March 9 07:39:55
Lately I had a few customers who has made the decision of leaving Domino and move to Exchange. The contacts I have had with my customers had been without any help because the decisions had been made at enterprise level, often by the headoffice in US or in other places.

We struggle with this every time but I cannot understand why, really!

Does Exchange offer a cheaper solution, does it give the users more functionality, or what is it that makes this a strategic choice?

When it comes to functionality, here is an article that compares Domino 8 with Exchange 2007 --->http://www.itcomparison.com/Mail/Exchange2k7vslotus8/Exchange2k7vslotus8.htm
Of all compared sections Domino is the big winner and Exchange looses a lot.

In costs, I have made a slight comparison myself (witch I will publish here later), that points out a price difference between 50 to 800 % more expensive with Exchange than Domino.
The higher difference is when You count in the fact that Notes 8.0 includes a Office package called Symphony.

This is interesting in a time where cost-saving is a leading star for all companies.

    For example:
    100 users private company
    Notes-Domino-Symphony    Cost: $ 9500

    Exchange-MS Office               Cost $ 81000
In both cases no licences for OS is included but would be equal.

Ok, some companies would say that we cannot change out MS office, but You certainly can replace 80% with Symphony, witch means You still get a big save!

    Vacation

    Mats Jansson  2008 July 4 07:36:36
Now I have almost had my first vacation week for this summer. Have I been free? Of course, but not completely. But it is self chosen. If I can serve some good customers, answer a few calls and reply to some e-mails. then when I'm back on work, I can more relax and focus on new tasks instead of hunting the ghost of things that MUST be done. Is this popular by my family? Not always, but in the long run I think I am a more relaxed person even at home. My kids like the fact that my laptop almost always is with us on travels. This year I did disconnect the switchboard so hopefully I do'nt get calls from telesales.
Have a nice summer all of You!

This is not the only place where I will spend my vacation.

Old news, Domino and Notes 8.5 is here

      Mats Jansson  2008 June 10 15:58:51
I hav'nt had the time to blog for a while. Here is my comments about what have happened.
Beta 1 of Notes and domino 8.5 is here, and it looks greate - under the hood. On the desktop it is not a big deal. The most changes is on he server. Changes on thinks like roaming, attachment store, mail routing, id-store, user management. These changes is in most cases not visible to the end user.
On the Notes client some changes are made, like the possibility to see iCal feeds in the calendar. Google calendar is one of them. There is not a lot of them but NHL have one and "remembertemilk" has another.
My opinion (witch has to be the bottom line) is that there is a big thing missing in the calendar features. The possibility to have a calendar in domino to act like a iCal feed. Hpoefully we will hav this soon.
